Veterinary Student Externships
As a teaching facility, AVSG Internal Medicine and Urgent Care offers veterinary student externships and rotating internship opportunities for veterinarians who wish to advance their training. Externships are routinely offered in the specialties of surgery, internal medicine, and urgent care. Special arrangements can also be made to include cardiology and dermatology exposure.
Veterinary student externships are often 2-4 week terms designed to give students of all training levels additional hands-on experiences outside of the university setting. These opportunities allow them to explore a new specialty, increase their experience within a specialty, or compare learning environments in different practice settings. Externships also allow students to evaluate a practice for possible training or employment in the future by providing a first-hand look at the culture and structure prior to joining full-time.
